Webb Australia Group were part of a multi-disciplinary team headed by Lendlease to design seniors independent living and affordable housing apartments and villas for BaptistCare across eight sites in NSW.

These sites include:

  • Carlingford – 162 low rise units
  • Five Dock – 79 low rise units
  • Goulburn – 53 low rise units
  • Lismore – 35 low rise units
  • Narellan – 122 villas and townhouses
  • New Lambton – 12 low rise units
  • Point Clare – 55 townhouse units
  • Springwood – 15 low rise units

Webb Australia Group were the mechanical, electrical and lighting engineering design consultants including being responsible for the design of incoming power and NBN supplies for the site, including substations and public streetlighting (Level 3 ASP), landscape lighting for accessibility and SEPP Seniors review of the services for the living units.

The projects gave us the opportunity to interpret the lighting standards to achieve a compliant and an architecturally integrated, comfortable and unobtrusive visual outcome, including innovative use of dimmable exterior area lighting.

As an example, the Carlingford site, which consisted of four, four-storey apartment buildings with basement car park on a common site with landscaped gardens. Challenges of the site include preservation of old growth trees and designing to a site that maximises building yield, strict Parramatta City Council public domain guidelines and Endeavour Energy network standards.

Innovation for future projects would include implementing the latest health research recommendations on the entrainment of circadian rhythms by lighting stimulus and adjusting the spectrum of lighting depending on time of day.
